Online Resources for Activities & Games

Wednesday is here! A couple fun historical facts about today:

2013 – One year ago today the government shut down - Time sure does fly!
1903 – The first modern World Series game between the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates

Today’s blog posting is about online resources for activities and games that you can use with your students. This topic has been slightly discussed on the blog before, but I’m focusing more on different activity and test generators that you can find online. For more info on different resources for notes, or flashcards, etc, you can go to a previous blog post, which can be found on March 31st, 2014.

Love the game Jeopardy? This site is really excellent when it comes to making Jeopardy games for students, and maybe even for your own classes. It’s also a great review for your students, or even an icebreaker! There is also a 10 hour jeopardy music video on YouTube to make your Jeopardy more like the game show!

Create free tests or quizzes for your students!

How about some Bingo to change up your usual activities?

This is a wonderful crossword generator that I used a lot when I was an instructor. They also have other worksheets or activities like Math, Word Search, Word Scramble, Secret Code, Word Match, Bagel, Fresh Words

While some of the content in these games are geared towards more high school level activities, the ideas behind the activities are great, and the content could be changed for your courses. Battleship, as mentioned on this website, is always fun to play!

Need any help on how to create some of these games? Send us an e-mail, and we can help! Remember that Emily was an instructor for years, and has an arsenal of games & activities that can be changed for the content in your course.

Does anyone have any great online activity builders or resources? If so, comment in the comment section below!

  1. I really like these ideas! I've had a lot of success recently with creating quizzes to start off my session with that review the material we went over in the previous session. The exam-like types of questions I think really helps my mentee start thinking about how the professor might ask questions about the material. I really like these new fun ways of forming questions on course material. Thanks for the ideas!

  2. I found these ideas very helpful! I was somewhat in a rut for coming up with activities for my students. But in my last session, I created a jeopardy game using jeopardylabs.com and I found that it was a great review tool, especially for going over mathematical formulas and application of those formulas. Even though I played the game with just one student, I will definitely use this in my paired session too.

  4. I would also recommend quizlet.com for any students who need to memorize vocab. It's an easy website to make flashcards of vocab and test yourself in various ways to help you learn the material.
