Happy Tuesday! As you're starting your third week and getting into the swing of things with your peer learning groups or mentees, here are some tips that you all created for time management skills & studying for exam. Don't forget that there is a ton of information in your manuals that you can share with your mentees & students. Have a great week!
Time Management Skills
o List the things from difficult to easy, and start with the difficult one
o Schedule time to study – go to a quiet place to focus when you need to get something done
o Stick to your schedule
o Also schedule time to take study breaks
o Make sure to turn off distracting sites
o Balance your social/work/academic life
o Plan far in advance
o Look at when your exams are, and make sure to prep for them in advance
o Color code your calendar
Studying/Exam
Prep
o Use color coded study guides – maybe similar colors to your class notes
o Summarize notes to make a poster or another way to make it easier to study
o Review all notes, handouts and lecture notes from class
o Identify what you struggle with and review it more
o Schedule studying time – try to get a little done each day
o Make sure there are no distractions – as your mentor for advice on the best study spots
o Get it done early & don’t procrastinate
o Try another way of studying – like speaking out loud to work through your notes or a problem
o Take the practice exams like the real one – try to take the practice exam in a classroom or reserve a small room in one of the libraries
o Predict the testing concepts and come up with an exam yourself or work with a friend/group
o Make a study group – make diagrams/charts/visuals
o Teach a friend or classmate a concept that you’re really confident with
I think finding and making a list of everything you need to do is really helpful. I include academic things as well as responsibilities for clubs and any errands I have to run. This allows me to make a schedule of everything to do. Having all of this information on paper means it is a lot easier to focus on the tasks at hand and not worry about what you have to do.
ReplyDeleteI have found that exams tend to go really well when students are extremely organized! Color coding notes, sorting through old assignments as you review them, and creating outlines, are very helpful in the process of studying. And of course, using your planner!
